E28 goes for IPO

Taiwanese entrepreneur Roger Kung has bet on Linux for its low-cost, high-flexibility, customizable user interface. Linux-based smartphones held a 48 percent market share in China in 2004, according to government data. E28 has led the wave of Linux-based smartphones in China as well as overseas.

Hotness of Linux for smartphone

Linux is one of the major operating systems used in mobile phones. Kung has bet on Linux for its low-cost, high-flexibility, customizable user interface. According to government data, in 2004, Linux-based smartphones held a 48 percent market share in China.

E28 has led the wave of Linux-based smartphones in China as well as overseas. It had sold more than 100,000 Linux-based smartphones by the end of 2004, at an average handset price of RMB 3,000 (US$380).
